Hello , so I lost my phone a few days ago and received a message from one of the children's mums in my daughters class saying her son had brought my phone home with him. Apparently my daughter (who is 6) had given it to him as a gift so they could stay in touch. I couldn't believe it! I had asked again and again if she had seen my phone because I had lost it and it was important that I had it. She even helped me search for it. This is not the first time she has taken things, we had an incident where she took two small toys from a shop which were returned and it was explained to her about stealing and it's impact. I've noticed that she's in the habit of lying about things a lot. I'm just not sure how to handle this one. Just find the lying incredibly frustrating.

At 6, for some children, taking things is within the bounds of normal behaviour. I think it's a cross between wanting attention and just "wanting things".

My own DD used to take little things from school at a similar age. She did stop after a stern talking to.

Cheers for the reply, I have had a good chat with her about it now. Time will tell if she does it again, hopefully she understood
