We don’t really have a garden

We have a 4 month old DS and live in a part of West Yorkshire where a lot of houses don’t have gardens.
We have a very small yard at the back, no grass, it has enough space for a sand and water tray and DS can play a little out there, while he’s small. But there’s hardly any space. We have a hillside behind our house, which seems to have access, I’ve seen next door walking their dogs up there and the other neighbours have an 8 year old who appears to have hung a rope from a tree up there and using as a swing.
We have a park directly across the road, with swings, some balance apparatus and a seesaw. It has goal posts up and I see lots of kids over there playing. It also has woodland at the back and a stream too. It’s a nice area generally. Lots of wildlife too, you regularly see deer, badgers etc.

But I’m worried about not having a decent sized/grass garden directly outside the house. When I was growing up, we had a big garden. Mum would open the back door while she washed up/did jobs in the kitchen or outside and we would spend hours out there, playing, sitting out on rugs, eating out there. I really enjoyed having this available as a child and I’m worried my DS will dislike not having a proper garden to run around in or it may affect his behaviour in some way (which is why I’ve posted in this section).

He won't know he's 'supposed' to have a big garden to play in, especially as you say that a lot of houses in your area don't have gardens. It sounds a wonderful place to live!

When we were small we also had a tiny garden. My uncle made us a three sided playhouse, like a shed with one wall missing. He put shelves in their and we used to take little seats and blankets out there. My 5 cousins and I had the best time ever in that yard. We could do whatever we liked out there. Even painted the shed ourselves a few times and planted a little potted garden.

I think any outside space is great and you can take him to the park whenever he needs to run of his energy.
I lived in a flat when mine were small and we went to the park almost daily. When we moved to house the children were not that bothered about the garden.

Is this a serious question?..... there must be millions of children growing up in environments half as nice as the one you described (in small flats, with no garden, and no nearby park) that have have grown up perfectly fine.
