I did (at about that age) - for much the same reason - only you can decide if the risk is worth it.

It will be fine, if its working do it. Are you ok?

advice would be not too, and I would not, but there may be a reason for her sleeping on her tummy, for example she have wind or colic or reflux and she gets some relief when lying on her tummy iyswim?

It may be worth checking with gp/hv

I am a firm believer in throwing all the baby books and old wives tales out the window. If its working and your child is happy (ie sleeping and resting and calm) then do it. Then just make sure you have the right mattress in case she vomits and check her regularly. I assume they have given you medication or something to help? have you tried other feeds/forumulas in case that helps or are you bf?

Will she sleep on your chest on her tummy? My DD had reflux and this always worked a treat as well as sleeping in a bouncy chair thingy.

24 years ago when I had my had my first child we we advised to put babies to sleep on their tummies.
I would say if she sleeps this way then let her,at least during the day whilst you're watching her.
Give yourself a break.

Maybe get one of those movement sensor pads to alleviate your anxiety about putting her on her tummy?

my dd never slept on her back as she had a severe cold at about 3/4 days old and litterally drowned if left on her back for too long, she slept on her front from 4 days old and there was no problem, only my experience tho!

Dd slept on her tummy from the day she came home. Ds1 started on his back, in textbook style, but was on his tummy within weeks. Ds2 varies between side and tummy. Some babies just do not sleep well on their backs.

Make sure her room is well-ventilated, that she isn't over-wrapped (touch her skin between her shoulderblades to guage how warm she is), that she sleeps in pure cotton, that nobody smokes around her, and that nobody has smokey clothes around her, and she should be fine. Best of all, co-sleep with her if your are breasfteeding.

Also tip her cot up or put a small wedge under her so that her head is higher than her feet.

ds1 would be awake for 10 hours or more when that age - and neither of us were happy about it.

What worked for us was sleeping on tummy, and not being awake for more than 2 hours - sometimes not much more than an hour - once he got to the yawning stage it was too late.

Dd always slept on her tummy or side - she could never sleep on her back until she was a toddler. Two things made me decide to let her do this: she could hold her head up from birth, and she tended to gag/choke suddenly when on her back which was so scary I preferred her on her tummy. Jill

ds1 slept on his tummy from day one, only because I noticed when he threw up he didn't turn his head and just chocked on it, so safer in my mind for my ds to sleep on his front.

TBH, if you speak to different generations, it has swapped and changed so many times over the years from front, to back, and the to front again. Only you can decide what's best

Sorry to jump off my usual cosy fence spot and go against the other replies, but since the Back to Bed campaign the cot death figures have dropped by 75%. It is obvious that most babies will be OK on their fronts, but as nobody can as yet tell which babies are more at risk, I think a statistic like that is worth taking notice of. I think your doctor and your HV can advise you, as can www.fsid.org.uk.

I personally wouldn't, because of the cot risk link and their campaign.

I has 12 wk old ds2, he would only sleep on his front until about a week ago, I know the risks, but chose to let him anyway.

second madame platypus - I had (and still have) a hideous non-sleeper and nothing would persuade me to put him on his tummy at that age

My DS was the same I never slept for the first 5 weeks! then I went to stay with my mum and was worried he would wake everyone up so put him on my belly on the second night i wnet to bed at 10 and he didnt wake up until 8 the next morning!!!! so that was that until he was 6 months old he slept on my tummy from 10 to 8 in the morning then at 6 months he went into his cot and slept from 7 until 7 and is the same now at 3!

DS had reflux too infact still has he is sick if he coughs too much! he wore a bib for the first 6 months all the time and could only manage 4ml of milk. Another thing we did which my doctor recommened was put him to sleep in his chair as it meant he was not flat we invested in one of the big mamas and papas ones so nice and comfy like this one www.mamasandpapas.co.uk/product-4593685/type-i/ they also have a sale on at the mo so can get it cheaper!

The best advice is do what you think best do what your happy with and what suits you

Good luck with her it will get better x
