6 year old stealing(2 Posts)
Not sure on this one sorry. If she is genuinely wanting to figure out how things work, could you give her things to take apart that you don't need, like a broken radio?
I was quite a curious child and by 6 I could do things like change a plug, by 12 I could do basic car Maintanance.
Signing her up for a Coding might help to keep her brain ticking over to or teach her Chess.
Just that really. I'm looking for advice on how to handle it as telling off, explaining how it affects others, discipline by way of taking away privileges etc are just not working.
She's never stolen from a shop or from school or anyone else and never really anything of value or even of any use to her. Just really random things that we end up searching high and low for and she doesn't admit she's had until we finally find them hidden away somewhere usually taken apart and ruined. Things like a packet of batteries, the dental floss, sanitary towels, medicine spoons, really silly things that are useless to her.
She's always been a very curious little girl and from being a few years old she has collected bits and bobs from around the house but now she knows what she is and isn't allowed, she fully understands that taking things that don't belong to her is wrong. She just doesn't seem to be learning, I'm just glad that she's such a terrible liar and knows it, so hopefully that'll be a passing phase!
Why is she stealing these odd things from us and how do we get her to stop? She's been pretty relentless with it this last week or two!
