Any advice for a 6 year old that cries over the tiniest things?

My son is 6. He's always been a bit of a crier. It's almost like it's his first reaction to anything that doesn't work out for him.

Yesterday, we took him to the park. He's just learnt how to ride a bike but is a bit wobbly and needs practice on steering the bike. This park had some gentle slopes and he didn't like going up or down them. His first reaction is to cry and have a bit of a meltdown about it. I say to him that all he needs to do is say "I'm not ready to do this yet" or just tell me and then we can go find somewhere flatter to ride his bike. But when I tell him this, he generally just starts raising his voice and gets angry. I tell him that there's no need to shout, his response to that is "I'm not shouting, this is how I talk" so then I tell him that we need to work on the way he speaks then because we don't need to shout.

He might be playing a game and something goes wrong or he can't do it. Rather than asking for help, he has a meltdown. It's just little things. I keep explaining to him that nothing bad has happened, no one got hurt, we can work through it together, all this kind of stuff. It will mostly work and he'll calm down generally, but I want to stop his first reaction to when things don't go his way to be crying and stamping his feet.

I also worry about him doing it at school (I'm not sure if he does). Kids can be cruel and I don't want them to make fun of him because he cries a lot.

Does anyone have any advice?

Sorry don’t really have much advice but my son also acts like this quite a lot. He tends to get more angry and shout at us than cry though. Ours just gets frustrated when he can’t do something straight away. I’m hoping it’s something he’ll grow out of- though I don’t have a lot of patience so he’s probably inherited that from me 😕
We try to ignore him as much as possible when he overreacts and also distracting him. Easier said than done I know.

I was just saying to my mum earlier, I think he gets it from me. I think I'm quite impatient. It just gets really frustrating. And my younger son has also started doing it. God help me Confused
