4 y/o DS is too giddy - advice needed!

My DS has always been excitable and exuberant when he has an audience, but recently it has got much worse. If he is around another child he jumps around near them, does a silly dance, puts his face in theirs or waves his hands in their faces. Some children love this and he plays with them, others, especially younger children are scared by him and they get upset. He also gets too giddy around our 8 m/o DD and tries to pick her up or wave things in her face. It's like he needs to be the centre of attention. I've tried ignoring his giddiness and attention seeking behaviour, which works when we are home alone, but obviously can't ignore it if he jumping all over his sister or a friends child. I've lost count of the number of times I've told him to calm down as nothing seems to be working. I am at the end of my tether with his behaviour. He gets tons of exercise and eats and sleeps really well, so can't blame his behaviour on any of those. Any one else experienced this with their DS, I feel like the worlds crappest mum when I'm screaming at him to calm down for the millionth time that day?

Read your post with interest Ellie! Does he go to nursery and if so, what's he like there? Or is this behaviour just with you? My 4 year old is very similar though I blame a lot of it on poor sleep and too much sugar!!!
