Autism - problems with our front door

We have a child that is severely autistic child and although we have replaced her door with a fire door, she is able to get out using the thumb turn. Under building reg's we cannot disable the thumb turn or replace with a key mechanism.

We have put a chain on the door as a quick fix, although I am now concerned about the integrity of the door but I was wondering whether there is anything available in the market place that offers additional security for children with autism?

Thank you

Not sure about this sorry. You might be better posting in the Special Needs section where there’s some lovely MNers with more experience.

Hope you find a solution Smile

I used door chains at the very top of all the doors I did not want my eldest son opening. It might be worth looking into 'Wondering Alarms' as they will alarm as soon as a door begins to be opened. More expensive ones can alarm when a person approaches a door.
