3 yr old getting up and playing at 430!!

Our DS2 is 3 since February. Still in his cot because as soon as we removed the side a few months ago night time sleep went to pieces! He is much happier since we put the side back on but is now climbing out every morning, we think at about 4/430 am! We only know because we sometimes hear him chatting to his toy animals outside our room. He comes in to us about 530 The problem is because he is obviously awake from the crack of dawn he's exhausted all day and is having tantrums and falling asleep in the afternoon (something he had well and truly grown out of!). His room is dark and he has a nightlight. Not sure how to solve this. Any suggestions?

Try a gro clock?

We bought our DS a digital clock and taught him to only come in when it say 7, a gro clock might be a bit easier though!
