DC5 never plays. Loves to draw and paint but never plays with any of the lovely toys we have. I don't really mind but sometimes when im being pestered to put the telly on because she's bored of drawing it winds me up.

It's 10am on a Sunday and I want a chilled out day, but DC won't play unless I play with her, if I have to do something she asks for TV instantly. It makes me sad tbh, that she is so reliant on adults to play it should surely be the other way around.

Had a bit of a strop this morning saying we should find someone who wants her lovely toys since she doesn't like them Blush I know this isn't the right way to go about it. But if I play with her, she stops as soon as I try to leave her to it, once the game has got going. Do I need to ban TV and tablet fully?

Looking forward to warmer weather and lots more outdoor time!!

Well I feel your pain my DD is 2 so maybe a bit too young to play on her own but I am trying to encourage it otherwise I just get dragged around all day and can't get anything done! I don't know if you can change them if that is their personality though! Confused

She was like this at 2 but yes probably most kids are. It's of a weekend that it becomes a problem. Pouring with rain or bitterly cold so stuck inside and I'll play for a little while but then I just crack on with what I have to (or want to) do. I'm quite aware that my friends' children happily play on their own so I put my foot down over TV and tablet when she insists she is bored and needs me to play with her but it just ends up with bad feeling and sounds like playing is a punishment the way I have to speak about it!

Spring will sort us all out, more family time outside and more time to play with friends.

Will she play with other craft toys? My kids enjoyed stuff like Hamabeads and Aquabeads which requires an adult to iron/squirt with water.

In my experience, some kids don't play with certain types of toys. I've never seen my son (who's now 16) play with an action figure and when my dd played with Barbies, she'd spend more time dressing and undressing then than actually playing. eBay and charity shops were good for buying bundles of Barbies and clothes.
