Pre-schooler who likes to be scared [confused]

DS has just turned 3.
For a while now I've noticed that he seems to be drawn to and love scary things (e.g. there's a picture book he likes having read to him again and again which involves some ghosts, a haunted house etc; he ADORES the Sooty and Sweep episode where they visit a haunted house; he loves to talk about the Big Bad Wolf, a make-believe character who he enjoys running away from etc).
Is this normal?

Yes!

3 is the sort of age where scary stuff like superheroes and other good vs evil situations become exciting.

Ok thanks.
It's like he finds being 'safely' scared compelling and addictive..
Which is not really in my nature or Dh's

It's a perfectly normal development stage.

I think that many 3/4 year olds enjoy Scooby Doo.
