Very upset Baby starting nursery!

Hi everyone!

I'm really new to this so apologies if anything doesn't sound right.

My 12 month dd is due to start nursery on Monday, she'll be doing 2 days a week and one day with my mum and dad.

She is a really sociable baby and loves other children but is also very clingy with me.

I spoke to the nursery about settling in sessions and they advised doing 3 (1 1 hour session and 2 half days) this week.

She had a temperature for the first session so I was unable to take her in, the second session she lasted 45 minutes until they phoned me and told me she had a temperature and had done a runny poo (sorry for graphic details) I brought her home and she was absolutely fine (no temp). I took her in today and she lasted all of 15 minutes, they said after I dropped her off she did 3 consecutive runny poos (sorry again for TMI) and to pick her up as it could be a tummy bug.

When I picked her up both times she was very very teary and upset but settled as soon as I picked her up. She hasn't had any of tj she runny poos at home (infancy the opposite) and no temperature.

She doesn't have a comforter or anything she's particularly attached to at home, she's been bf since birth so kind of uses me.

I'm due to go back to work on Monday and I'm so worried now, I really don't want to leave her so upset and I'm worried now she is pooing out of fear which is breaking my heart.

Has anyone got any thoughts or ideas? I am lost as what to do?

Many thanks

Kate xxx

Could it be something she is eating/drinking at nursery that is causing the runny poos? A comforter that smells like you might be good as it will remind her of you and thus give her something familiar in an unfamiliar environment.
My little one was teary too when they first started nursery and also caught a lot of bugs in the first few months. I cried the first day I left them at nursery, but now happy to leave them in for that extra hour or two when I can! It gets much easier, so try not to worry.

Sorry OP I know how you feel it's awful! The nursery sound a bit rubbish sending her home all the time. I don't think that would fill me with confidence.

She WILL settle though, it might take a while but she will eventually. It took my DD absolutely ages but she was clingy and not very sociable either lol. She loves it now though and I think it will have really helped her in the long run.

They have to send her home if she has runny poo. It will be in their guidelines.
