1 yo a bit "withdrawn" with other babies

I'm a bit worried about my ds as he seems a bit withdrawn and not as interactive with other babies as my friend's children. With me and dh he's a little chatterbox and generally very happy. he was later than his "friends" in even noticing other babies were around him - he does pay a bit of attention to others but seems sort of "thoughtful " rather than "playful"!
Also he doesn't say any words with meaning - he says dad dad and mum mum - but to anyone! other people have said their babies are saying all sorts of things at this age - any advice or am i just worrying too much ??!

My DS is nearly 13 months and only mumbles still, whereas another baby a little older is speaking clearer. It's just a personal thing to them, that baby has an older brother that maybe she copies? DS is my first. He doesn't notice her either, just sits on her or slaps her head - babies don't usually interact with eachother at this age, you ahve nothing to worry about x

It is very common for 1yo to have limited words. This tends to vary widly at this stage - some have no words, some can take in mini sentences.

I remember reading on here that words are not that important at this stage - understanding and pointing are better indicators.

Babies of this age don't play with each other. They play alongside each other at most. And again, how much they play varies too. Sounds like your little one is happy to sit and take everything in; he'll be learning loads just by watching and being thoughtful.

Don't worry!

Ds2 is 14 months - he hasn't said any words yet. He's mildly interested in other babies - prodding and poking generally! I wouldn't expect any actual playing with peers for quite a while yet.
Try to relax - it'll all happen eventually
