10-11 month old only taking nap?

Hi, my 10-11 month old has started dropping his first morning nap. He usually has two naps; one in morning and one in afternoon. Some days he has two naps and some days he only wants one in the afternoon Is this too early to be transitioning to one nap?

Both mine were around 11 months when they dropped to 1 nap

My 11mo often only has 1 nap. Suits me because then I get double nap with my 2yo.

I was afraid ds was transitioning, I’ve been quite liking the two naps for a break and was getting too used to it I think! I guess a positive is it’ll make things easier and mean I can go out with ds after breakfast without risking a cranky baby!

Always thought they didnt move to one nap until alittle older, it just seems early.

Think it depends on the kid. They normally sleep longer in the one nap so you still get a good break.

I think your baby tells you when they are ready to start transitioning because they just won't nap. But if he is more tired than usual after dropping a nap, maybe try to encourage him to nap more. It's so tricky when babies start dropping their naps because, like you say, you enjoy the quiet time and you can rest yourself or get things done - Trust me, I know how it feels - I have twin boys!
If your DS just doesn't want to have his normal morning nap, I would try and make his afternoon nap slightly earlier or longer to make up for it. But it may be that he just drops the nap completely. xx

Thanks, I’m used to having a shower and getting ready for the day in his first nap and guess that won’t be happening much longer! When do you ladies get ready? DS is so demanding and I have nowhere to put him when I shower!! He isn’t crawling yet so I’m still carrying him around everywhere.

Thanks Wilson2, twin boys aww how lovely. I don’t know how you do it!! Must be great watching them play together. Hope ds afternoon nap is an extra long one like you say to make up for it! He’s having it now and did get very tired at lunch. x

My son is 9 months and already starting to fight the morning nap. 30 mins if I'm lucky and I too would often use it to get myself ready. He still naps for 1.5-2 hours in the afternoon though and goes to bed at 6pm!

6pm sounds great ginger. I know getting ready is going to be difficult now. I’m not sure he’ll settle in his cot while i get ready as he has a tendency to cry if I leave him or put him down (not always but sometimes.) Ds seems to go to bed late and sometimes won’t sleep until 9pm or 10pm. He will sleep 10 hours and no more and also has been waking every night which has been tiring. I wish I could get him to go to bed earlier!

I have a bath at night when the kids go to bed. Would he not sit on the bathroom floor with some toys while you get ready / shower?

I have a love / hate relationship with naps. It's great when they are asleep but I think you can stress about them too much and if you try and force it, then it just gets really annoying!

Unfortunately it wouldn’t work buck as Ds doesn’t sit on playmat or anything. He can sit without support and happily will
on people’s knees and in trolleys etc but he can’t push himself up to a sit yet and prefers to lay on floor rolling around. He will hen get frustrated and outreach his arms and by to be picked up!

I often just leave DS safely on my bed surrounded by pillows when I need to get ready.

Sounds hard work Pass. What about a jumperoo / walker type thing?

My DS has been a bit of a late crawler, he has just started doing a lot more stuff this last couple of weeks. He's pointing, crawling, cruising a bit and trying to pull up. He seems much happier.

Thanks Ginger1982 despite ds not crawling he’s a roller and wriggler and really would roll himself right off the bed (he can get around and over pillows)

Thanks Buck he keeps me on my toes that’s for sure. I was going to get a walker or jumperoo when ds was younger but somebody put me off. They said they’re not good for baby as can force pelvis forward while baby in unnatural position on tip toes. I know I shouldn’t have listened put it really me off!

Just hoping ds will start crawling/cruising soon, even sitting happily would be an improvement! I think DS is developing in other areas as he’s a really good talker (baby babble but can say a few words) and he’s very alert so probably frustrated I think.
