Hair eating

Has anyone had any experience of this? I'm sure I read something about it somewhere but can't remember where. My friend's 2.5 year old is pulling clumps of hair out and eating it. She's also having lots of tantrums, especially at night and generally sleeping badly.

voila

Have been there done that got the T-shirt. I think I have put all my experiences on that thread bu (in a v long post - sorry).

The upshot - we gave DTD2 a number 2 cut with clippers, it worked within the time it took to grow back. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. If you need any further advice please shout.

I am afraid I can't offer any advice. But, a hair twiddler, I am. I have never pulled out. But the wrapping around finger, is all me. Loads of people do that. i've seen on tv.
Very interesting.

Have read the other thread and all of your hair eaters seem to be quite small. Dd is 6 and has just started this, she doesn't eat her hair but she makes knots and pulls them out. Was shocked when I tied up her hair for school after easter hols, it's very very thin...almost gone...on one side.
Is it jealousy about ds2 (9m) or is that just the old maternal guilt kicking in?

Sorry Oblomov, I assume you're an "older" hair-eater too!

DTD still pulls her hair a little (compared to what she used to) on one side of her head. She will be 6 next week. She seems to do it when she is bored or tired. I find quite a lot of hairs in the car (which I am assuming is because she has nothing else to occupy her hands)

Badelaide - 34, doing it since ... 15 ?
I do it all the time. Bored, tired, happy. Not just negative emotions - when I am driving I twiddle aswell - yes, yes I know !!
