Angry 9 yr old girl

I'm very worried about my 9 yr old daughter and probably have been for a few years now. She's a very intelligent girl but is incredibly shy and seems to have low self esteem. She also has anger issues and seems to completely lose the plot. Over the weekend she has scratched her 3yr old sisters face 3 times leaving horrible marks. A friend came over to play and she came down crying saying she had kicked her causing her to bump her head. The last time another friend popped in her son came down crying saying she had pulled his hair really hard when they were play fighting. When she is in a rage she says she feels miserable all the time, everyone is mean to her and no one likes her. She also doesn't sleep particularly well and will be awake at 11pm then is so grumpy in the morning. She doesn't appear to care about who sees this behaviour either. She will lose the plot in front of family but so far no probs at school. We have had no problems/upheavals at home and I feel we are a supportive family. She appears hyper sensitive too, she will make remarks about people start g at her and if someone is whispering she will assume it's about her. I'm at my wits end tbh. I don't know if this is typical 9 yr old behaviour or if something is actually wrong. Can anyone advise if they have experienced such behaviours?

If she’s hurting other children in your home, you need to make sure they are supervised at all times, no going off upstairs.

As for her behaviour, it does sound like she may need some additional support. Have you read up on ASD in girls at all?

Hi, it's not something I have a lot of knowledge of so looked it up. She doesn't present with some of the behaviours but prob under the interacting with others bit does display some of things noted. There are no problems raised at school and in all her subjects she is in the top groups. Could it be a hormonal thing maybe? She is quite slight for her age and one of the youngest in class. I don't know if I overreact at times as she's my eldest and have never dealt with it before. I was a crazy teen and made my parents life a misery 🙈 maybe this is my turn lol!!

It’s the fact that she doesn’t care who sees her, the low self esteem and the lack of sleep that made me think of ASD. I’m not trained though. I’ve just been reading up on it because of my DDs behaviour.

I could have written this! When I've posted here before others have mentioned asd. However, I think anxiety presents as the main symptom in girls with asd, but correlation is not cause. I have a child with asd and know LOTS of girls on the spectrum, so just wanted to reassure you it's not automatically the case.

I have no advice though, I'm struggling to get to the bottom of why my dd is so angry.
