Conventional wisdom holds that a baby's height, weight, and head circumference should be in the same percentile. While that's often the case, don't fret if your baby's percentiles seem out of whack. "Both scenarios are common," says Cynthia Ferrell, M.D., an assistant professor of pediatrics at Oregon Health & Science University, in Portland. During a growth spurt, a baby's length may shoot up, or he may gain weight quickly, causing his growth-chart percentiles to diverge.

Are these measurements taken by a HV or done yourself at home? I'm just wondering if the measurements are out a bit... A small mis-measurement could make a huge difference to the percentile.

People come in all shapes and sizes so the percentiles not being the same isn't unusual, but I can't see how a 75th for weight, 9th for length baby wouldn't be chubby? My DCs are 25th weight/75th height and very slim, and just over 25th weight/just under 75th length and average build. They both had/have size 5.5 feet at 17m which I believe is big for girls, so I'd assume a 6 on a same-aged boy is equally large compared to his peers.

Every time DS was measured for length, he'd come out in a very low percentile band after 1 measurement. But we knew he was long, outgrowing clothes lengthwise, and would ask for a re-measure at the same appointment, later when DS was more comfortable in the office. He always stretched out better and would turn out to be in the 85th-95th percentile with just a bit of difference.
