DD is 28 months and only says a handful of words. Despite this, she is very loud and very vocal. She has been seen by a speech therapist, a paediatrician and an early years worker as a precaution, as DS (six) has Autism.

Other than her speech she has no significant delays and no red flags for autism. Every professional she has seen, says she is a very clever little girl with such a little character. She's ahead in some areas (fine motor skills particularly).

My question is, how common is it for children of 28 months to not be talking? When did your late talkers start talking? Did they catch up and when?

My DD didn’t get going with talking until she was 3, almost exactly 3 when I think about it. She came out with a 7 word sentence al OST straightaway. As long as she can follow simple instructions, I’m sure she will be fine 🙂

My dear didn't really start properly talking until just before she was 3. She could say quite a few words but didn't string much together. We did SLT and it really helped. She certainly had a few problems but she was doing well in other areas. She's now 5 and doing really well. In fact she seems ahead in most areas!
