Almost 12 months and no teeth

Hi there

I just wondered if anyone had experience of this? My DS2 is almost a year old and is yet to cut his first tooth. He has been having teething cycles every few weeks since about 3 months old with drooling , red cheeks, frantic chewing etc and nothing. I cannot even feel or see anything in his gums.... it’s become a bit of joke amongst family that he is walking before he has teeth....

Thanks

I have a couple of friends whose babies are a year old and have no teeth yet. Much the same as your DS they show all the signs for months and month, but no breakthrough.

Of course, if you're worried ask the HV next time you see them, but I'm inclined to believe it's completely normal and like all those milestones, there's a huge variance in when they happen.

DD has the opposite issue, two teeth at 3 months, eight at a year - and absolutely no interest in walking (or even crawling really) which I'm about to start a thread about.

Thanks AnonEvent - I kind of feel similar in that it’s normal variance and not to be too worried - it’s just tricky when it's brought up every time I see family and they question my lack of concern. It’s not effecting his food intake - BLW - as he eats pretty much anything, I just make sure foods are relatively soft for him to chew.

Teeth are a massive hassle too - tooth-brushing is just another thing to add to your routine.

My parents are the same about DD and walking, I walked earlyish (10months) so they nag on and on about how she shows no interest at all - when logically I know that until she's 18 months we really don't have to start worrying at all.

My daughter got her first teeth at nearly 13 months. She’s now almost 15 months and cutting the top 4. I know it’s hard, but I really wouldn’t worry yet Smile

Mine didn’t get his bottom teeth until six weeks before his first birthday and we’d had the drooling/crying/chewing everything phases we felt sure would result in teeth. He’s thirteen months now and the top two have just popped through. Try not to worry. They’ll come through when they’re ready and it’ll be like living with a mouse - chew marks on everything!

My youngest is almost 13 months she is walking but has no teeth, she is the 4th dd to walk before having teeth. My slowest to get teeth was dd3 she finally cut 4 teeth at 16 months.

Thank you for the reassurance everyone - we shall just carry on and wait for the day he wakes up with a toothy grin!

Don't worry...dd was just the same, got her first tooth just after 1st birthday. Dentist said it was a good thing, means she will be later getting her adult teeth and they might last a bit longer!!

I did have a similar problem with my little girl when she was that age. The pediatrician told me that it was actually better and that her teeth would be stronger if they came in later. I think she finally started teething around 12 months but didn't have any teeth breaking through her gums until 18 months.
