Hi all,

My little boy is one and a half and was a fantastic eater until he was in hospital at Christmas with a bad chest infection. Since then he has become so fussy and I'm at my wits end!

He will not eat anything picnic like, not a sandwich or bread and butter! He eats toast and crackers though.
When it comes to meal times he likes the same things, chicken dinner, cottage pie or Mediterranean chicken (which I keep adding extra veg into so he is getting all he needs).

Tonight I made chicken fried rice for me and my other son and thought I would try him too but nope he screams, spits it out and goes into a a massive melt down. In the end for his tea he had wheatabix and a yoghurt.

I have tried just to leave him and not give him anything but he really isn't bothered and I hate sending him to bed on an empty stomach.

Just don't know what to do, I am going to speak with HV next week but know it's a common issue so thought I'd see if anyone has any advice too?

It's getting increasingly difficult if we go out for the day because he just won't eat anything and ends up having a lunch of crackers/rice cakes/carrot sticks or last resort chips.

TIA x

just give him what he likes. and then add one thing that you want him to try eg veg meat pasta and just work on it from that

my sons the same so so so fussy

all my son is eats is yoghurt bananas cakes biscuit chicken korma spaghetti them cheap pasta things and sausages. I rotate and add veg and chicken etc on each meal see if he will try it

I give him multivitamins to make sure he gets some goodness.

hope that helps

The thing is, the more you are invested in what he eats and try to change it, the more restricted his diet is likely to become.

The range of foods he eats does not sound dreadfully restricted and all the food groups seem to be covered.

I would keep cooking lots of what he likes. if you want to make something different, let him choose whether to try it or have Weetabix.

This is a problem for you at the moment and not for him. Try to keep it that way.

I just give mine the food we are having, the rule i they can't scream aboutit or push it of the plate, but they don't have to eat it. They get plain porridge or bread and butter afterwards (my choice, not theirs) and no telling off about food bein left.
3 rs old has come out the other side and eats veg esp if he has helped grow/cook it.
2 yr old - not so much Wink but we live in hope she will some back to it
