Baby with severe trapped wind up all night

Hi,

Sorry bit of a long story! My 5 month old son had Necrotising enterocolitis (a perforation of the bowel basically, where the tissue had died as a result), he had quite a large part of his bowel/colon and appendix removed nearly 5 weeks ago. Op went really well, scans show its all healing well, he's been pooing regularly BUT since the op he has been extremely unsettled waking up in the night sometimes up to 10 times night (used to sleep 9 hrs straight before op), he was straining in pain and trying to pass wind. Fast forward to now doctors have put him on Neocate milk about 10 days ago, so its more gentle on his tummy. The straining has definitely improved with it but he seems to have severe trapped wind still, he cries out all night and we have to go and pull up his legs to help him pass wind. We spend long time winding after feeds in hope wind wont go downwards but it makes no difference! we are very tired out and are spending most of our nights up with lo in pain. Please does anyone have any similar experiences, on the farting all night any advice on what could help would be much appreciated!! Tia

Have you tried baby massage? It worked wonders for my little one, I went to a class which we loved but I imagine you can learn it off YouTube or similar too. I didn't do it after every feed but got into a routine of giving her a little massage before bedtime and she started sleeping through again almost immediately. Might be worth a try? (Providing that you can apply light pressure over her tummy following the op that is) xx

If it's CMPA he'll constantly produce wind, poor thing. Have a look on YouTube at the "tiger in the tree hold".

Is he breast or bottle fed? If he's bottle fed, I would def recommend Dr Browns bottles. Saved our sanity with DS1

He hasn't actually got Cmpa they have gave it to him to see if would help with his digestive system as it's more gentle, he was really straining before that has stopped but the wind is the problem. He falls back asleep after we've helped him get rid of it but then soon after it has built up again!

Also Have tried baby tried massaging his tummy seems to help initially, also we use dr brown bottles. Have no idea what to try and more, seems like this is a side effect of the surgery Sad

Sorry, assumed the Neocate had been prescribed for an allergy. Hace you tried the Tiger in the Tree?
