2 year old temper tantrums

Hi everyone, new on here but just wanted to see if I'm the only one experiencing this!
My little boy turned 2 on Monday and we have noticed he is having explosive tantrums, he'll throw things and scream to the point of making himself choke. It's triggered usually by saying no to him or stopping him going in the direction he wants to go in or (this happened at his settling in session at nursery) a child takes a toy or tries to help him with a puzzle. He has had 3 of what I would describe as meltdowns just today and I'm really concerned. I have spoken to the HV and someone is coming to our house in a couple of weeks for a visit and will bring his developmental review forward if they thinks it's appropriate but there are other elements of his behaviour I'm also concerned with such as not always responding when we call him (he does eventually but after several times of saying his name) and he has been tip toe walking (and have now worried myself sick courtesy of googling). His speech has come along really well in the last couple of months and he can point to items and name them (animals and what sounds they make etc) and he plays with us and interacts with us really well and is otherwise a happy child but I'm just really worried for when he starts nursery for the first time next week! I'm wondering if I should hold off starting him until I have seen the HV?
Any advice or experience of similar would be very much appreciated.
Thank you.

Bh it sounds unfortunately typical of the terrible twos.
Buy a book called Toddler Taming. Very enlightening.

He's just hitting it hard. The selective hearing is par for the course too. Hmm

Oh and 123 Magic is an excellent gentle discipline book.

I hated it. Toddlercalm is much better.

Thanks for the recommendations, will try anything at the mo! He went into total meltdown the other day when I took him swimming as he didn't want the armbands on, took them off and he stopped. Just don't know how to deal with it, especially in public. Don't want to give into him but he was seriously screaming the place down. I'm hoping nursery will help but terrified of him starting!
