Dummy use

My 10 month old boy is a bit of a cryer and whinger. When i can't calm him down, the dummy mostly can. Is it wrong to use a dummy to keep him happy in this way? He has it quite a lot. I think the negatives are teeth and spec h development. He doesn't have any teeth yet and he babbles quite a lot anyway. I'm just a bit worried about him becoming addicted to it. He doesnt have it for sleep times.

Our DS never had one, and if you keep him entertained by talking to him and playing with him, he should be more content.
