Behaviour/development

You know that thing that toddlers do, repeating the same sentence over and over and over again?

When they are about 13 and then they just start grunting - so I've been told

I'm not sure. But DH does it sometimes as well (although not as often as DS).

lol Pruni!

ds is 3 and isn't doing it so much now, I think dd carried on for a bit longer.

Annoying isn't it!

Do you repeat the sentence too?

Is it driving you demented? Any particular one phrase today?

I have every sympathy -I did some baking with DS yesterday and from the moment we started to the moment we finished he constantly said "Can I lick it?" (ie the spoon, bowl and remains of cookie mixture). By the end I was somewhat frazzled.

ME "Yes, when dad gets back"
DS"We are going out for lunch today when dad get back"
ME" Yes, that's what i said - when he gets back"
DS" We are going out today for lunch"

,

There there, it's not long until they are teenagers and then you will wish for all the chattering - again, so I've been told!

DS1 3.6 has just got into a habit of saying 'pardon?' over and over.
It's got nothing to do with his hearing, just the fact that he doesn't concentrate when I'm talking to him (gets it from his dad )

So we have;
'DS1, come and get your coat on'
'Pardon?' (whilst driving his cars)
'Come and get your coat on'
'Pardon?
'Coat on. Now'
'Pardon?'

AAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!

ds "Mummy,why is it raining?"
me "Because the clouds have lots of water in and they are raining on us,because the water has to come out"
ds "Why"
me "Because thats what happens when the rain needs to come out of the clouds"
ds"why"
me "because thats what happens"
ds "why"
me loosing patience "I have just told you"
ds "why"
me "because you just asked me" aaaaaaarrrghhhh
ds "Mummy?"
me ,cautious "Yeeesss?"
ds "Where do squirrels poo?"
me "out of their bottoms"
ds "Why?"

Mummy has nervous breakdown.

We're also getting the slightly surreal questions like

why have I got hands?
why are there birds?
what are cats made of?

and no matter how well you answer its never good enough so he repeats the question again and again.

"wot'szatcalled?
wot'szatcalled?
wot'szatnoise?
wot'szatnoise?
Mama?Wotyoudoin'?
Mama?Wotyoudoin'? (Sometimes replaced by Mama?Wotwedoin'?")

"Mama? In a minute instead of supposed to be for a little I think today now Mummeeee..." Repeat 5 times.

Would be hilarious if it was SO ANNOYING He is 2.5.

DS1 doesn't do it. He's 2.11. Will he start soon?

Report
BettySpaghetti · 05/03/2007 13:20

Maybe you'll be lucky hunker and he'll by-pass this stage altogether!

DS is 2.9 and has been doing it for a while (but it seems like an age!).

DS1, 2.3's is

"don't like it"
"don't like it"
"don't like it"
"don't like it"
"don't like it"
"don't like it"
"don't like it"
"don't like it"

Repeat ad nauseum

Report
hunkermunker · 05/03/2007 13:23

Oh, if he's stroppy he'll go "I don't like it, I don't like it At All!" or "yes, no, yes, no, yes, no" but he doesn't tend to really repeat questions over and over. Or maybe he does and I'm too vague to notice. I think I say "Yes, dear" quite a lot

DD (2.8)

"What's for lunch Mummy"
"Sandwiches"
"I can't like sandwiches" (hasn't grasped don't)
"You liked sandwiches yesterday"
"I can't like sandwiches"
"You liked sandwiches yesterday"
"I can't like sandwiches"
"You liked sandwiches yesterday"
"I can't like sandwiches"
"You liked sandwiches yesterday"
"I can't like sandwiches"
"You liked sandwiches yesterday"

I can do it just as well as she can

Also

"What's that Mummy?" points to cat
"It's an elephant"
"No it's not its a cat!"
"What's that Mummy?" points to doll
"It's an elephant"
"No it's not its a dolly!"
"What's that Mummy?" points to table
"It's an elephant"
"No it's not its a table!"

We have also started recently with "Why?" but it hasn't got annoying. Yet.
