2y old pulls out her own hair

My two year old little girl has been pulling out her own hair for several months to the point where she now has large bald patches on her head. I'm almost sure this is a habit she uses to comfort herself, she does if while she sucks her thumb. HV hasn't been able to offer much advice and we are awaiting GP apt. Has anyone had similar experience? Any advice for getting her to stop? We've tried giving her long hair dolls/ taggy blankets, distracting her with other activities but nothing has really helped. It's heartbreaking seeing her pulling out her hair. She's otherwise a healthy, happy girl.

Have you tried putting gloves on her? I would seriously consider it...I would velcro them to her cuffs.

Might sound extreme but bless her..so is pulling out her hair.

Also you could cut her hair short. She's only two...so many two year olds have short hair anyway because it hasn't grown much. Cut it short so she can't get a grip on it and keep it that way for about a year until the habit dies. Better that than have the habit get stuck in her so when she starts school it's still there.
