Aggressive school behaviour

My child is adopted and has been with us for 18 months. He had aggressive behaviour with us last year but that has stopped but since he started back to school in September he has had aggressive behaviour against his class mates. It all became worse this week when he and another child cornered another child and were punching and pulling that child's hair. I really don't know what to do. I was totally shocked that he would do this and now the school are stopping his playtimes until he learns to be nice. After some thought on this I think it will make things worse as he is a child that needs to run around so it could very possibly make him a nightmare when he comes home or in school with all his pent up energy. Advice needed please

I'd say the most important thing is that you liaise with the school so that you can come up with a plan that works for all children. Make sure they understand the situation of your dc, make it clear you understand the situation of the other child, approach it as a problem to which you want to find the solution. Keeping your dc in is probably about reassuring the other child (my ds was on the verge of school refusing after similar incident), so it's about finding a solution that will achieve that at the same time as meeting your ds' need to run off steam.
