My lovely new ds is 12 weeks old and is bottle fed. He generally feeds 4 hourly 10am, 2pm, 6pm and then goes down at 7/7:30pm. I tried dream feeding him at 10/11pm but he will only take a few ounces so I decided to drop this and get an early night! He now wakes at 2am and then again at 5am, I then try to feed him at 7am but he doesnt take much. Should I try the dream feed again, or does anyone recommend cluster feeding in the early evening in order to get them through th night, or at least only waking once! I did the same routine with my dd1 and she dropped her night feed very early in the first two months. I am a SAHM with a 2 1/2 y old and my baby boy and frankly I'm knackered, dh works shifts so needs his sleep I feel I cant ask him to do the night feeds. Please help!!

That actually sounds pretty good at 12 weeks. Could you do one feed each?

Your probably not going to like this but I would say go with it.
I remember my ds doing something similar. He was sleeping through from 4 weeks so when he started waking again I was distraught
But he settled again.
I put these things down to growth spurts

Might be worth trying the dream feed again to see if it stops the 2am wake, then you'll at least only be up once.

I think thats pretty normal, my ds woke at least twice during the night at 12 wks. He is now 10 months and still wakes 3-4 times during the night!!

I think that sounds prety normal for a 12 week old. I am not criticising but it does always surprise me when I see posts like this about small babies waking in then night. I think it is all these people banging on about oh is he good at night????? There is too much pressure on mums to get their babies sleeping all night and babies that do are the exception not the rule.

I think it sounds normal.

My only suggestion would be to try a later dream feed at about midnight if you can stay awake that long, that might give you a longer period of continuous sleep.

I'd try giving the dream feed again.

I'm also a great believer in giving the bedtime feed directly before bedtime, can you try & delay the 6pm feed half an hour & put him down straight after?

Hello,

This is exactly what my 14 week old DS is doing! I tried a dream feed but it seemed to unsettle his other feeds and he would just wake more often! I am now trying to get him back to sleep at 5 with just a cuddle and always wake him at 7 for a feed.

I have also been told this is a good sleep pattern for his age - but am also trying to improve it!

I wish my ds had been that good as a baby. He only started sleeping through at 15mths!

Lucky you. My ds didn't sleep through till he was 3 yr 5 mnth old (and that's after doing CC).

Any chance you can nap during the day at all?

Are you having a laugh? My ds was up at least 4 times a night and that only reduced to 3 times until he was 3yrs. Lucky you!

TBH that sounds pretty normal for twelve weeks.I hate to say this because it is really really tiring I agree.I have to say my first baby slept through at about 16 weeks and was really good but no 2 is still waking at 14 months. It is very hard with a toddler too.I can sympathise as I am on my knees with tiredness trying to combine work,an active 3 year old and a non sleeping baby.No real solutions for you but big hugs of sympathy

Thanks for all your input, I think I am a bit of a neurotic mum and if things aren't just so, I lose the plot - but then when is things with a baby just so - NEVER! I do agree that us mums worry obsessivly about getting baby through the night, I mean 12 weeks ago he was still in my womb. I was very blessed with my daughter dropping her feed so early that I think I am naive in thinking there is a 'magic routine' to get babys sleeping through (don't get me started on a certain lady who we don't mention on this site who has probably helped me in becoming neurotic!!!!)
Anyway, I will perservere, and as I keep thinking when he is 30 he wont want a night feed (i hope!!)
