NO interest in eating at 3 years - except crisps, fromage frais etc

My eldest daughter (4 in March) has always been a poor eater. Things improved in the summer when we hit on playing her favourite word games when she ate a spoonful. But these are wearing thin again. I get her to choose between 2 meals so she doesn't just get her favourite all the time but even with things she likes she just says 'no' sometimes when we get to the first spoonful.

Has anyone got any suggestions? This has gone on too long to be a fad. It probably is a control thing - she is very physically disabled so mealtimes would seem to be the times of day she boss us around. How can we get her to enjoy food, and even new things?

Thanks

Leesa

Hello GBSbaby!

My ds has just turned 3 and is also an appalling eater. I can certainly say with him it's habit and a control thing - it's partly my fault but also partly his temperament tbh (he is very stubborn and always has been).

Does your dd's disability have any bearing on her eating? I just wondered because the approach I have just started may not be appropriate for your dd.

Decide on a set of rules - eg. only healthy snacks - and keep to them consistently.

I know pudding as a reward is generally frowned upon but since I introduced ice cream only if you eat all your veg the levels of brocolli consumption have rocketed!
