Unusual behaviour in 9 month old

My 9 month old is an awful sleeper/napper and has reflux and allergies which I feel have set him back a bit but there are a few things that concern me. Because he's been a tricky baby we've not gone out and socialised with other babies really at all. I'm hoping someone here might be able to reassure me or give me clues what might be going on.

He smiles and sometimes laughs at inanimate objects, in particular lights

He's obsessed with my hands and feet, he loves watching and trying to grab them

He doesn't really attempt to communicate with me except for crying or smiling and occasional laughing, he does babble a little bit but it doesn't sound like speech at all.

He seems to have weak hands/fingers

His legs sometimes go wonky (!) - like one will go out to the side or back

He often doesn't bother with toys, like he's too tired to, but sometimes likes playing with things like activity cubes. He basically just chews everything like it's going out of fashion when he does play. He likes chewing paper especially.

He's not yet crawling but has been trying to for months. He gets frustrated and lies his head on his hands and screams and bites his hands

He screams a lot actually.

Thanks

Oh forgot, he generally doesn't seem very string or sturdy. He will still sometimes keel over when sitting despite sitting pretty well for a few months, and he doesn't cling on to me really when I'm carrying him, or if he does it's quite limply. He scratches things a lot.

He smiles and sometimes laughs at inanimate objects, in particular lights - sounds normal

He's obsessed with my hands and feet, he loves watching and trying to grab them - my two did/do this, they think its hilarious

He doesn't really attempt to communicate with me except for crying or smiling and occasional laughing, he does babble a little bit but it doesn't sound like speech at all. My 11 month old is only really starting to babble ... other than that laughing/smiling/whinging is all he has !

He seems to have weak hands/fingers Not sure about this one, examples ?

His legs sometimes go wonky (!) - like one will go out to the side or back same as above

He often doesn't bother with toys, like he's too tired to, but sometimes likes playing with things like activity cubes. He basically just chews everything like it's going out of fashion when he does play. He likes chewing paper especially. yeah eating everything in site is 100% normal at that age

He's not yet crawling but has been trying to for months. He gets frustrated and lies his head on his hands and screams and bites his hands my older DC crawled at 11 months, the younger one at about 9-10 months, i wouldn't worry yet. Can he sit up unsupported ?

Have you spoken to your HV? Might be worth going along with a list of your concerns so you can talk through them. A lot of what you have said sounds normal. There are a couple of areas where maybe he is a little bit behind on milestones though (eg no babbling). But then they're only a guide.

How much time does he spend screaming? Do you think this is because of the reflux/allergies? Are you getting any help with these?

Ok thank you... Because I don't see other babies often I have no frame of reference! He's not clapping or waving or playing games with me except he did do peekaboo with one of his tops the other day. I just can't stop worrying about him tbh...

paper at the moment it's quite a lot, but if I'm holding him much less. Yesterday it was probably about 3 hours total, I was holding him almost all the rest of the time.

Hmmmm that does sound very tough. Some babies are just like that though I think. 9 months is separation anxiety time so it's normal for him to want to be close to you, although it sounds like he's always been like this?

You can get meds for reflux, have you tried any of them? Is he on special milk for his allergies?

If he's a poor sleeper then the irritability could be partly down to tiredness but I know that doesn't necessarily help as sometimes they just won't sleep no matter how tired they are! How is he in the pram, car, sling? Can you enforce regular naps by using any of those?

Definitely speak to your HV or GP so you can talk through your concerns. I'm not saying it sounds like there's anything wrong with your DS, just that the internet is not always your friend when you're quite isolated and have a tricky baby.
