10 month old still not reliably sitting up

Hi all,

I've posted on here before about my DS's development but I think it was under a different name. I'll try to keep it short but basically his overall development is giving me no end of worry and anxiety, one area of which is his sitting.

Ever since he was around 7 months old, DS has been able to sit independently, gradually building up the length of time before he topples over or starts crying. He's now 10 months & I've only really stopped surrounding him with cushions and can leave him with a few toys while I get on with a few bits around the house. However, today he has fallen backwards twice, bumping his head. This is not entirely unusual. He is a strong boy and not floppy so I'm not sure why he's doing this - I'm worried sick that it's neurological. Has anyone had any experience of this in slow developers? DS is starting to try and pull himself up on furniture, he bum shuffles a little and is babbling a bit. He launches forward to crawl but ends up flat on his tummy, going no further, he loves to stand, makes good eye contact, can feed himself and is generally a happy chappy.

Does anyone please have any thoughts / reassurances?

I'm not an expert but I think it sounds normal. All babies fall backwards occasionally even when they can sit unsupported, certainly at this young age ime. Can he sit and play with toys without support etc?

Had similar with my DS. We ended up with a physiotherapist, paediatrician, ENT, specialist neurological paediatrician and a speech therapist. Non of them found anything wrong and he is so far a normal 2 yr old (running around, can jump with two feet, etc). They think he was just a bit hyper-mobile. I was beyond worried at the time though.

My son is hypermobile but is a very active 8 year old, however he couldn't sit himself up at 12 months, never crawled and only walked at 15 months. My other two were both very quick, but if you look at them now you can't tell which took the time. Some children take a little longer but try not to worry by the time they hit the school gates you can't tell who walked first, who clapped last etc

I have 4 kids and all of them have never been sitting before 9-10months. I used to worry too as online it says 6months. But all my children and happy and healthy
