My two have never crawled. It's not a problem if they don't.

Lots of children don't crawl and go straight to walking.

Commando crawling is a form of crawling, so nothing to worry about. My DS commando crawled until a week before he started walking at 12 months.

One of mine early commandoed and crawled similarly late. The other didn't commando or cruise holding onto anything. Just learnt to stand in the middle of the room and as soon as she mastered it took steps. She was 16 months and spent about three days to do it.

My niece didn't crawl until 15 months. She walked a few weeks later.

Thank you for the replies just not sure if I'm not helping him properly or something he is getting so annoyed and moaning after awhile I think it's because he isn't getting places quick enough and I'm not sure if I should leave him as the frustration might bring him along?

Mine bottom shuffled from 10 months and looked like he would never crawl. He decided to do it at 13 months, at the same time as speed-cruising round the furniture with one hand! 3 weeks later and I think he's just about to let go and walk. At 10 months he could hardly do anything, he sounds fine if he's commando crawling then he's getting about

health visitor would be a far better place than here.
my hv was concerned at 8 months and told me to encourage my dd.

i would get it checked out. do you not have a hv review coming soon?

Ds didnt crawl, he just dragged himself aro7nd by his elbows until he was 10 months , when he started to walk.

I think the best thing you can do is give him the opportunity, which you are. He will learn in his own time and it sounds like he is doing absolutely fine. If he is indeed getting frustrated that he can't get around how he wants then that will be the best spur for him, as you say.

My DD crawled at 9.5 months. Some babies I knew at the time crawled at 6 months, others 11, one much later and a couple never did. They're all walking/running now. It is easy to worry with your first but you really needn't.

Dd3 couldn't even sit up at that age! She was a late sitter, crawler and walker but you'd never know it now Smile

Try not to worry - he sounds active anyway.

Thank you so much for all the replies they really make a difference.

He already had his health check and she is really happy with him says he is coming on great..

He only got his first two teeth in the past 3 weeks I thought that was very late but she wasn't concerned at all about it as he has being saying words clapping waving goodbye since he was about 7 months.

I really hope he is walking by 16 months as I am pregnant and due then I suppose that's why I am trying to encourage his as much as possible but I don't want him to miss any stages as I know that this is all very important when he is doing the commando he is coming over and trying to climb on all the furniture to get himself up and he has done he is a very determine little guy

My DS crawled a week before his first birthday

My DS1 started walking aged 11 months, never having crawled.
He then discovered that crawling led to less falling over, so crawled after he'd learnt to walk Grin. Only for a little while, until he was steadier on his feet, but there you go.
DS2 was born when DS1 was 1 year and 10 days and, yes, I was grateful that he was on his feet by then.

Good luck! Thanks

Oh, and DS2 (who had been born at 31 weeks) crawled at 10 months, but did not walk until 17 months.
They do things at their own rate.

It's good that your HV has assessed him and has no concerns Smile

Big range of what is considered normal. My first did everything right in the middle of the range, crawling at around 9 months. My 2nd was right at the late end: crawling around 14 months and walking around 22. My third is 12 months and though pretty mobile certainly isn't proper hands-and-knees crawling. Yet.

My DS only started crawling a few weeks ago at 14 months (12 months corrected).

A month later and he has started cruising.

DS is 11 months he commandos. He's surprisingly quick at it now too! And he only got his first teeth through in the past month too. It's just babies, they're all different.

I never crawled at all, apparently. just sat there and squawked when i'd had enough. I was walking by about 15 months and although I'll never win any sprinting races (because I like chocolate far more than I like running), i'm otherwise very normal :)

Don't worry. My ds was 11 months before he bum shuffled, only learned proper all four crawling a few weeks ago at 19 months! He's 20 months and still not walking! He can do it but just chooses not to...

My DS turned 1 at the end of August and he only started crawling properly instead of commando that week.
It was only when he started to pull up that he realised he could move on his hands and knees and now he is off and has never looked back to the commando :)
Now we are trying to get him more confident at standing on his own!
My first born was walking at 10months they are all so different, enjoy it while he's still relatively in the same place you left him :)
