Is he just trying to move?

DS currently spends the majority of his day doing "crunch" type movements as if he can't stand being on his back. This is accompanied by almost angry sounding noises and grunts. He does this on his mat, in his rocking chair... in the pram he cries as soon as I put him in and seems to strain against the support straps & try to sit up. He didn't used to do this.

It might sound trivial but I'm only asking because I have other little worries about him & just want to check this out. Thanks

Sounds quite normal to me, I agree with you that he wants to move. What else are you worried about ITH?

I've been totally over anxious since his birth basically cos hes been a big cry-er and seemed so unsettled. I've found early months a bit of a nightmare (!!) He has seen a paed over certain features that might mean he has some behaviour/development issues (obviously early to tell)
Might just be my anxiety! But he seems so busy & to be struggling so much. Worried hes hyper already!!

have you tried putting him on his front?? My ds now 5 months is like this, but is happier on his front than his back, always has been is desperate to move about - can now turn himself round in circles but not actually get anywhere and gets so frustrated bless him! DS1 was the same and crawled at 6 months and then was happy as larry so guess its just that overwhelming desperation to move

some kids are fidgets. does he move around if hes on his tummy and look like a sky diver with all limbs off teh ground but belly on? DS did that one for ages before he got crawling.
Have you talked to your Dr or HV about any of your worries, they would be more use than here as could see your child.

You could try taking him to an osteopath that specialises in babies to get him checked. My 10 week old has been arching and curling to one side and won't turn his head to his right. HV (and family) said I was worrying too much. Took him to my osteopath who is appropriately qualified and he's confirmed there is a problem - so we'll be taking him back for follow up treatments which should loosen it all up - all consistent with a traumatic birth - he got stuck and had to come out via the sunroof - don't know if any of this sounds relevant?

UniSarah - lol at skydiver - that is exactly what my DS looked like before he learnt to crawl - so much so that me and DH used to laugh at him whilst saying '1000, 2000, 3000...'

In the House - my Ds has also always preferred being on his tummy - he rolled from back to front at 4 months and has never looked back, he always turns him self over as soon as you put him on his back - so might be worth a try - he is now crawling and is 7 months tomorrow.

My brothers girl would lift her head and feet and strain to 'get up' almost from day one, she would never relax and lie down! She's very, very active now at nearly a year.
