2 year old and chewing

My 2 year old son has suddenly stopped chewing some of his food? He'll swallow it and sometimes he's winced because the pieces are too big ? He's never had this issue before ! I've started to chop all his food smaller. He's had a packet of sweets here and there and I think this may be the issue he'll swallow them whole and ask for more. (I've obviously not given him anymore) I don't know if it's greedyness or there's an issue ? His speech is slightly delayed too which I've read this could be connected ? Help 😣
