Dd has this coming up in a couple of months and I am stumped. I have cash flow now that I might not have then so I'm looking at buying now.

We've got millions of toys and she plays with her duplo creative cakes and ice creams, her paw patrol busy book and her doctors kit. That's it!

She likes colouring, jigsaws, orchard games but we have masses of these.

She's 'girly' but not excessively so, as I don't think she'd like anymore dressing up stuff that she has.

She loves books and I will probably buy a few out of Julia Donaldsons collection but I'm going to need more ideas than this!

What do your 4 year olds like? Would sylvanian families be worth a start at this age?

What about Melissa and Doug stuff? I got some things there for an upcoming 4th birthday - some sweet animal stamp kits and a bead collection. Nice chunky string and beads so easy for little hands to make. They also had lots of make your own jewellery box/tiara/mirror stuff in the 4+ range I think.

Otherwise I think sylvanian families would be good at this age. Bought some for a 5th birthday recently.

Playmobil?

Charity shops provided many of our DS toys, games and books, and also clothes, when our finances were restricted thirty years ago.

The Book People do a great Julia Donaldson collection for £12.

Got DS (4) this for Xmas last year and he's read them all at least twice over

Dd turned four recently. Her marble run was one of the best presents she got - that and a massive pack of Crayola felts with a really good range of colours! She's quite into My Little Pony, and she also enjoyed the toys and DVD she got of these. Oh, and she got a few sticker books she loved! These were definitely the best things that I can remember.

Scooter
Bike
bound sketch paper and good quality pencils

Put the money away safe until closer to the time and see what she's into then as their ideas at this age change very quickly.

Thanks for all your ideas! She's not that into playing with dolls and she has quite a new mini mocro scooter so those are off the list sadly but some of the other ideas are great.

DD is coming up for 4 so watching with interest!

She will be getting a new bed (as her sister will need the cotbed) and a new scooter (ditto) so those are sort of presents but probably not exciting as they are replacing things she has already iyswim.

Possible other presents I have thought of:

  • A mirror for her bedroom wall (as she is just getting interested in clothes... not sure if I want to encourage this though!!)
  • A teepee/wigwam

Some things DD got at Christmas which have been popular:
  • Dolls house
  • Rucksack (Skip Hop fox one)
  • Dressing gown
