parents of bum shufflers

Ds is almost 11 months and began bum shuffling one month ago. He can also commando crawl which happened about 9 months. He doesn't pull to standing easily but can bear his weight.
There is no way he's going to walk by 1-ish if he can't even pull up yet.
Any bum-shuffler mums- did it take your dc longer to do these things?
New experience- dd crawled traditionally at 8 mo and walked at 12mo

I'm not a parent of one but know a parent of one. He's starting to walk now at 14-15 months. He never did any sort of crawling, not much pulling up and spent a long time in the walking with adults fingers supporting phase. I think 14 months is actually considered average for children walking, with up to 18 months still being normal so your ds has a while to go before you would need to worry.

My bum shuffler walked at 11ish months. I though I had loads of time before the bedlam happened but she only shuffled for around six weeks then without warning walked across the room.

Both my dcs bum shuffled, neither of them crawled.
Dc1 still walked when he was 12 months old, despite being sat not moving at 9~10 months.
Dc2 was walking by the time he was 10 months. Straight from I'm sat down to I'm walking within a few weeks

My ds1 bumshuffled with no crawling at all. He walked when he was 16 mo with much encouragement!! Walking by 1 isn't a big deal - there's no need to worry til they're 18 mo.

My DS bum shuffled from 11mo and didn't walk until 17mo but when he did he walked very well so never had that falling over stage. He learnt to crawl shortly after walking!!

I think bum shufflers tend to walk a little later than crawlers though all kids are different. For my boy there wasn't much motivation as he could move effectively and carry things in his free hands!

Ds3 went to a childminder with a bum shuffler, she started at about 8 months and didn't walk until she was 19 months. That must've been a lot of trouser bottoms worn out!

My bum shuffler walked at just over 10 months. My speedy crawler didn't walk till 15 months. I don't think the two are connected.

The bum shuffler was in nursery full time at 9 months which I think is why she walked so young, she needed to be able to get around!

My bum shuffler waited until he was 2 to take his first steps. Once he did it there was no stopping him!

My bum shuffler didn't walk till 18 months. Used to go through tights at a fast rate. She was fast as anything.

My bum shuffler didn't walk until he was over 2 yrs old! Didn't concern me at all, he was clearly happy shuffling and had both hands free as he moved around and boy did he move fast! I tuned out whenever people commented on it negatively and so many people had such negative things to say about it Sad
He is now 11 and the fastest runner in his class, fit and can walk for miles Grin

Meant to say she didn't crawl at all. Straight from bum to walking.

My bum shuffler walked at 18 months, within a fortnight there was no discernible difference between her and her cousin the same age who had walked at nine months although I undoubtedly had the easier child, dsis was run ragged Dd walked, ran and climbed all at once tbh.

A long time ago now, but my bum shuffler never crawled at all - her hands were only used for carrying things around. dd walked across the room at 14 months, once for me and again when daddy came home, then plopped back down and shuffled again for another month, all encouragement ignored. Then, at 15 months, she just got up and never shuffled again.

Both of mine bum shuffled. They never crawled but walked later than their peers, 18 and 20 months but were steady from the start.

My bum shuffler walked at around 14 months. Pretty much the same age as her crawling brothers.

2 out of 3 of mine number shuffled, one walked at 16 mths, the other at 18mths. Neither crawled first , just stood and walked when they were ready. By contrast my non shuffled also never crawled, he walked at 10 mths. I was told that bum shufflers tend to walk later in general so I wasn't worried.

Mine never crawled until after she was walking which she didn't do until 23 months.
Dr/HV were not concerned they explained that bum shufflers don't need to walk as they are upright when they move so can see around them and carry stuff with one hand as they shuffle about so they do tend to be later.
They wouldn't have flagged it as a problem before 2 1/2.

My bum shuffler never crawled and walked at 9mo. She couldn't stand up from sitting or sit up from lying but she could walk nonetheless. Weird child!

My DS did minimal walking on all fours and walked at 11mo.

My DD bum shuffled, never rolled over, never pulled herself up on furniture and didn't walk until 18 months.

People made me think there was something wrong so we were referred. Paediatrician said there was nothing wrong, she just liked shuffling!

My first bum shuffled & walked at around 15 months. No development problems - fantastic exam results & just finished her first year at a Russell Group Uni, so I really don't think the age they start walking means anything.

Dd bum shuffled at 9 months, walked at 10 but couldn't crawl until she was 18 months

My cousin was a bum shuffler and is only walking the majority of the time now she's 18 months. She also has two older sisters (11 and 9) who carry her everywhere which probably didn't help Grin

Dd1 bum shuffled. Walked At 15 mo. Crawled after she walked.

dS crawled early and like bloody lightening. Always under your feet. Walked at 15 mo!

Dd2 crawled late , walked on her knees on a high kneeling position very competently whilst using both hands. Had absolutely no reason to get up on those wobbly little feet of hers ( well why would you if you could run on your knees ) till the nasty Physio put her in piedro boots. Finally walked st 22mo!

They are 23/20/17 now and very normal though dd1 has dreadful coordination and didn't ride a bike till 11!
