Can teething molars really cause a toddler go hardly sleep?

Never been a great sleeper but was starting to improve. Last 3 nights have been horrendous - waking every 2hrs, sleeping for 10 mins then waking up again for a few hours period in the night. Up early. The only thing that has changed is that he is cutting lower 2yr molars (can see points of both just through). Could this really cause such rubbish sleep? I'm sceptical. Pain meds sometimes help, sometimes don't. He is 21mo.

When the molar teeth cut through at my son he was a bad sleeper, waking up lots, wanted to be cuddled a lot

My daughter now she sleeps the night but has fever

Yes - big time.

They are huge teeth pushing through so it affects everything!

Also caused my DS ear infections/colds/chesty cough/fever etc. He slept really badly. Calpol helps.

unplain I have just posted a very similar message on the main parenting page. My DS now 18 mo wakes 10+ times a night. Hard to tell whether meds make any difference... I've just done a search on MN re teething molars and it seems that in some cases, molars really can cause severe sleep disturbance....

Thing is, we can have shit sleep for weeks/months then a 'good' night of maybe 3 or 4 wakeups, then back to the usual 8-10+ wakeups a night....

DS had a tongue tie (prevented me BF) and his lactation consultant who referred us for it snipping at 7mo, told me that babies who have tt often have a hard time teething...
