Light and noise sensitivity

I'm looking for some advice/insight into my 3 year old DS's behaviour. He's always been what might be described as a demanding child - he was quite a fussy baby, and as he's got older has always needed/sought more attention and supervision than his twin sister. He doesn't see danger in many things and I never feel comfortable leaving him alone in a room, even just to go to the toilet - he'd be climbing everywhere, messing with electrical items, etc.

For a while, he's appeared quite sensitive to some noises - for example, he hates it when I use a blender or similar items. He also hates fireworks and seems very alert to noises outside, e.g. lawnmower, car revving, and gets quite anxious asking what it is.

Over the past few days, I've noticed a sensitivity to light too. Today we've mostly been at home, and have had the lights on as it's so dull. He's constantly been turning the lights off and saying it's too hot (I think he just means too bright).

All of this added together is giving me some concerns. Is it "normal" behaviour? Am I reading too much into it?

Have you read the highly sensitive child book?

I've not, but will have a look at it. Thanks.
