shyness in a 16mth old

hi, i just wondered if anyone could help me. I have a dd (16mth) and am worried she may be painfully shy. I take her toddler groups and see friends with children every week. She goes to nursery for one day too. She doesnt seem to interact very well with all the children and seems to prefer quietness and calm, rather than loudness and running around. she seems to prefer reading or even her own company even when other children are round. Dont get me wrong, she has her moments when she shouts and screms with the best of them but i am so worried she will be painfully shy. When i was younger, i was painfully shy and it was such an awful experience. does anyone have any suggestions?

My ds (16mo) is going through this now. He's the biggest of the babies that were born in past year and when he stands up the others grab him and touch his face (which he hates from anyone) they use him to pull themselves up. If he sees other babies playing on the floor and I put him down to play he holds on to my leg and cries.
