swaddling

In an attempt to get 6 week old ds to sleep longer at night I have ordered a miracle blanket to swaddle him in. Am a bit confused by conflicting advice on swaddling. Certain books advise not fully swaddling after 6 weeks to help prevent overheating, others say its ok up to 4 months. Any advice??

No idea what the 'after 6 weeks' advice is all about, I swaddled ds til 5 months, i.e. when he could wriggle his way out of it.

Make sure your ds is lightly dressed underneath, cool room etc. But I would frankly have bitten anyone who had tried to take the swaddling blanket away from me at 6 weeks (Actually I don't think we started til about 12 weeks).

I swaddled DS for ages, until he was big enough or a sleeping bag and back then they didn;t make sleeping bags so small.
It didn't do him any harm at all and he was a great sleeper.
As long there is no danger of overheating (ie heating off, room well ventilated, not too many layers) then he should be fine.
IS he in your room?

Yes and planning on him sleeping with us until 6 mths i think. Do you put a blanket over him Mckenzie or just swaddle blanket? Did you have him in a babygro or just swaddle over his nappy? Tribpot did your ds take to swaddling straight away with you not doing it from birth?

Gio - I think so - ds had reflux and we had 12 glorious weeks of never (I literally mean never) being able to put him down flat. I remember dh swaddling ds one day and being honestly shocked at the result. Do it!
