When did you move from cot to toddler bed?

Just wondering what age you made the transition and how easy/hard it was? DS not trying to climb out yet and sleeping on a mat at nursery but know he can't stay in it forever!!

Two weeks ago Grin . DS is turned 2 in June.

It went really well. He usually sleeps well (takes a while to go to sleep but when he's out, he's out all night) but the first three nights when he woke in the night he called for us instead of just settling himself back to sleep. After that he wasn't bothered.

It helps that we had a cot that converted to a bed so he's in that, with one side against the wall so he's still kind of secure. He fell out of it last night for the first time but we didn't even know he had until I checked on him going to bed. He was just fast asleep on the pillows we'd laid beside his bed (just in case). He also doesn't get out of it in the morning yet. He still waits for us to go into him when he wakes, even if we leave him for 20/30 mins.

My ds is 2.5 and still in cot. I will get him a bed soon but not rushing if he's ok

Following, for advice! My 23-month old is in a cot that we'll eventually convert, but at the moment I can't see the advantages when he's happy enough in there!

We only made the move because he was trying to climb out at night when we first put him in, and he's tall so he could get up on the rails. We were going to wait.
Also, we're going on holiday in Sept. and he's too tall to sleep comfortably in travel cots so we wanted him used to sleeping in a bed before then.

If your DC's happy in cot, definitely don't rock the boat and move them.

DS1 the day after he looked pretty close to climbing out, just after second birthday.

DS2, the night we heard a great thuds, as he had climbed out, about 19 months.

If he's not climbing the bars, keep the cot!

18 months... On a whim! It was stupid in hindsight! She was a poor sleeper anyway and this made it worse! We got through it (with a stair gate on her bedroom door) and she seems happy now, she'll. be two next month!

All my dc's went straight from cot to a bed at about 2.5.

A couple of months before two and a couple of months after two. They were just getting too heavy to lift, and I didn't like not being able to get to them, to read stories and lay down and cuddle. Both dc are 'spirited', but have never so much as left their rooms.

Took the sides off the cot at 18 months; single bed around 2. She never fell out

At 20 months both times. Let DC play on bed in daytime and made a fuss and a show of lifting them off, not letting them climb down themselves to discourage them getting out at night. It worked. DS2 climbed out once. I can't think either ever fell out, there was a side bar on though.

My DS was 15 months but could climb before he could walk.. He would climb out cot onto my bed..Advised by HV to swap to bed.

I am not one to rush..If sleep is working don't change it for no good reason

At 18 months, ds is very tall and he moves around in his sleep loads. The cot was starting to look a bit small so we went for it. Full sized single with a bed guard. Worked really well, no problems at all, he loves his bed. We did start a ritual of tucking teddy in first which helped I think.

We changed DD's cotbed from cot to cotbed, about a month ago she turned 3 in April past Blush We were in no rush as she hadn't outgrown cot, or tried to climb out. She was in sleeping bag so first thing we did was get her a duvet, complete with Frozen (of course) cover to get her used to sleeping under duvet first. About a week later we took the sides of to convert to a bed.

It went ok. In cot she would've slept to 7.30-8am, but now with new found freedom she was coming into us at 5.50, 6am!! 4am was the earliest one Sad So we then bought a gro clock and did a bit of training with this and now she gets up at 7am.

Good luck!

Around 2nd birthday. Cot getting too small. DD loved her big girl bed and we just left stair gate on her door as near stairs

My ds' cot is huge, I got one that turns into a bed after though so he wouldn't outgrow it too soon

Tonight! DD is approaching two and a half. So far I've only had to channel my grandma and her infamous luck once. Aside from a slight falling out of bed incident half an hour ago, it's going well so far...

Damn it, jinxed it. Just started crying!

DD was 2.5.

DS is 18 months and I'm going to leave it as long as possible. So basically when he starts to climb out, or when I want to stop putting a nappy on him at night whichever comes first.

We went straight from cot to normal single bed with DC1 at 2y2m. It was becoming a bit snug in the cot!!

TalcumMucker · 31/07/2015 22:26

DD went from her cot to a double bed at 2.2yrs, dictated by DS needing the cot in his room as he'd outgrown the Moses basket.

Love having her in a double bed. It's low so its easy for her to get in and out of, she's never fallen out of it and if she wakes in the night I can just climb in next to her and go back to sleep without contorting myself into a strange position or sleeping on the floor. Consider it if you have room!

DS just turned 2 and we're only starting to talk about the possibility of getting him a toddler bed. But he can't climb out yet, sleeps well, fits into cot and can't be trusted to roam around without supervision even in his room so he will stay in cot for the time being.

At 2.8 when he was escaping head first

It went terribly. After never really battling bedtime we had battles of up to 2 hours per night. Super nanny rapid return etc all failed. Bedtime got back to normal after about 5 months when the novelty wore off.

He stayed in his own bed once asleep though but some night waking due to the overtiredness.

I'm not sure if it might have been better if he was moved earlier, probably not.
