When Do Babies/Toddlers Start Giving Kisses?

I know this is very variable but roughly when do they generally give kisses? I know they tend to start with those open mouth kisses before moving on to 'proper' kisses so a rough age for either or both would be good.

I can't really remember with DS1 but I seem to think it was before he was a year.

DS1 is being assessed for ASD (it runs in my family and I'm certain) and now I'm starting to notice little things with DS2. He's 16 months and I know it's too early to tell if he has ASD but I guess I just want to be proactive and keep a record of everything so if it turns out he does need to be assessed when he's older I have a note of all behaviours and traits I've noticed.

Something that's just occurred to me and isn't even anything I've seen connected to ASD but just something that seems different is the fact he has never given kisses. He can imitate the smacking of lips noise but normally when he's on the other side of the room and he never tries to do it up close. He hasn't ever given open mouthed kisses, either.

So, what age did your baby/toddler start giving kisses?

DS started giving open mouth 'kisses' at 10 or 11 months, and just now (at 15 months) they are becoming more closed lip conventional looking kisses.

But I always have to ask for them- he never just offers.

Ds started with the open mouthed ones at around 10 months ish. He's only progressed to closed mouthed ones in the last couple of weeks- he's almost 19 months!. He will pucker up to show he wants a kiss then give me a closed mouth kiss! He won't "blow kisses" yet though.

Dd1 when she was 1ish
Dd2 doesn't like kisses and offers her forehead even when I try to smooch her

About a year I think. Ds is 18 months old and he will kiss me, his dad, his wee chums, his rocking horse, his rabbit, the high chair (Confused) the cat in his story book.

Ds went through a phase of really not wanting to kiss. If I said "kiss for mummy?" he would pull away but i didn't make a big deal out of it and now he will kiss if I ask or just sometimes because he wants to. He always kisses at bedtime.

18 months is when he started actively offering kisses (open mouthed slobbering ones!) and initiating them himself. He has never been overly affectionate until quite recently and he is 20 months

DD just started doing the open mouthed fish face kisses at 14mths. Cute but a bit slimy!

DS was 2 in April and has only started giving kisses in the last couple of weeks.

Thanks for all the replies. It sounds like it's by no means unheard of but a little unusual for DS2 to not be giving kisses at 16 months. I think I'll make a note of it as something that may or may not be relevant to possible ASD.

Well I remember DT2 giving kisses when asked at 18 months , he may have done it earlier. He has Asd.
