Desperately need advice on sleep

I don't know what I'm expecting, I don't know if anyone can suggest anything but thought it was worth a try.

Ds is 6.5mo. Since 3mo he was sleeping 8-7.30 with one feed around 3/4am. I know, I was bloody lucky.

Then came the 4m growth spurt/sleep regression hell thing. He spent about 2 nights feeding every 2 hours and since then his sleep has been getting worse and worse as each day goes by.

Now getting him to sleep at night takes at least an hour. We have screaming and crying every time. I put him in his cot, I have tried leaving him, sitting with him, holding him, nothing works. Eventually he will fall asleep then I feel like crap as he's usually fallen asleep crying. Once he's asleep (anywhere between 6.30 - 9ish) he sleeps ok until around 1am. Then it starts.

Last night he was continuously waking up, I tried giving him his dummy which would calm him for around 5 minutes then he's start crying again. And it kind of goes on like that for the rest of the night with an hours break every now and then. He has a feed anywhere between 3/5am and usually wakes up around 5,30.

I have tried holding him when he wakes but he goes stiff or looks around the room for ages waking him up more. I have tried feeding more in the day but it makes no difference. I have tried cutting down naps in the day (which seem to have got longer) but then he just goes crazy over tired.

His naps in the day vary and I never know when he will get tired which doesn't help. Sometimes he will nap at 8.30 - 9ish sometimes earlier. He's tired now but is just looking around. I have put him in his bean bag with his dummy.

My DD is 8mo and was quite similar as in great to start with then 4 4 month regression hit hard.

Recently, she appears to have turned a corner and is proving the 'sleep breeds sleep' idea. I now find that I'd she has 2 looooong sleeps in the day, she does seem much better at night.

Now, the thing I am stuck on us that she is a very interested, nosey and willfull baby who doesn't really want to sleep in the day!

However, I wanted to share that as I don't think you need to be worried about long sleeps in the day - I think they are a good thing.

A decent amount of solid food could be helping her too - and this could give you some light at the end of a tunnel as your son gets used to food, he might settle better.

Can you get DH/ DP to cover any nights or early mornings so you could grab some extra sleep?

It will pass thanksbrewbrewbrewbrewbrewbrew

Thank you fusion.

Glad to know I'm not alone.

Dh works long hours in a physical job so is exhausted all the time anyway. He usually wakes up and asks if I want any help but I'm usually up by that point and ds won't settle with him anyway confused

Fingers crossed it just gets better hmm

That 4m sleep regression is pure evil!
