dd is variable - she's 5.

My DS2 is 7 and still sometimes ends up with it up his back! I think it depends how dirty his bum gets as to how good he is at it!

They don't usually get the hang of it till 5 or so, you need quite a lot of co-ordination to manage it at all. Many school age children will still be struggling IME.

My DS1 just started to wipe himself and he is 5. If he has a soft poo he prefers that I wipe as he thinks it is too gross for him to do....

My dd is 5 and still struggles. I still do it at home a lot of the time so am probably not helping the situation. She often comes back from school with quite pooy knickers!

DS1 is just five. He always asks me to do it if we're at home - he doesn't ask when he's at school, and often comes back poopy.

Ahem ... anyway ... um ... I have a really good sense of smell ... and I've met quite a few adults who smelled like they hadn't quite got the knack of wiping their bottoms ...

We keep babywipes by the loo, for cosmetic and other purposes , and DS2 (13) still uses them all the time - would that help DD2?

Report
misdee · 31/10/2006 21:30

oh no dd2 would block the loo with wipes.

she has started to call me to the loo to 'check' again. its great fun. guess i should just get used to it.
NQC, i can also smell adults who havent wiped properly, poor them.

JanH Read my mind
we keep a tub of cheap wet wipes for such things(even though ds is all grown up)

My 6 nearly 7yo still can't do hers.

DS 6 still wants me to wipe his bum, I think he likes the security of knowing its all properly clean. He won't poo at school, as I'm not there to wipe him and comes home with poopy pants very occasionally. Once recently he pooed at the childminders and insisted she wipe his bum

DD aged 3 insists on wiping her own bum and never leaves any poo behind. She's immaculately clean like a little cat

I think its psycholocical as much as physical i.e. DS could do it himself if he really had to, but likes the security of knowing Mummy will clean him. I'll have to draw the line at some point though - probably when he goes to University!

My son is almost four and I throughly recommend Kandoo wipes. I thought that they were totally unnecessary and just a clever marketing ploy to make us part with more money. Afterall, we managed perfectly well with toilet paper for all these years. One day I gave them a try when they were on offer and I can't believe I have resisted for so long. There is no need for them to get to grips with folding up toilet paper and as they are wet they clean up the area very easily. The novelty of the packaging etc is nice for your child I make it clear that wasting them is NOT a good idea. Kandoo wipes revolutionised my life(well slightly!)

Dd1 could, Dd2 couldn't and Ds is nearly 4 and is no where near getting it right.

Be careful kikki, kando wipes can block up your loo.

My eldest is nearly six and still asks .

I've stopped buying kadno wipes etc. If necessary I buy normal toliet wipes , usally supermarket own brand half the price , handy for that 'oorrrible poo moment
