At that age my DS had a 30/40 minute morning nap and a 2-hour afternoon napped. Dropped from 3 naps to 2 around 8/9 months. Dropped to 1 nap around 18 months.

Ds is 11m exactly. He naps pretty well. 1.5hr in the morning. Usually about 10am and 1 hr in the afternoon. Usually 2.30 til 3.30

Following. My 11 month old was napping like clockwork. Around 1.5 hrs in the morning and another hour in the afternoon. Now she seems to be fighting the morning nap like mad, and only having a cat nap.

At 11 months (and up to about 16 months) we did the 2/3/4 routine.
So get up, up for 2hrs, then short nap (about 1 hr max), then up for 3 hrs, then long nap (max 2hrs), then up 4 hours then bed.

So, in practice, this meant napping 9am for 1hour, and 1pm for 2 hours.

We've been in the 2/3/4 routine since 5 months and it's worked beautifully until around a week ago.

Following this closely. My ds has just turned 13 months. Since Christmas we have had loads of problems with him at bedtime. Screaming and taking hours to settle or going down fine but then waking up 2 hours later and taking ages to go off again. He was having two naps - one about 10 ish and then one at 2ish. I thought perhaps it was him moving towards one nap as at childminders he tends to only have 1. So have now made it 11ish until 1ish. From what you have all said have I done this too early? Should he still be having two? He is taking a little while to settle at night still but is sleeping through once down. Don't want to be making him overtired

I moved my 13 month old to one nap just before Christmas. Prior to that she was having two naps but had started to wake a lot at night. She doesn't get up until 8.30am/9am and then naps from 12 - 2.30/3pm and is in bed asleep by 7.30pm.

She is however still waking at night......

My ds would have as many as we would let him and my dd would have as few as we made her.

Just out of interest, for those of you whose babies take early morning naps, how do you manage playgroups, baby music classes etc?

Everything around here seems to be on in the morning, usually between 10am - 12pm. I have an older child also who I have to bring out and about.

I feel my baby needs a morning nap but we never get it and if she 'catnaps' in the buggy etc, she isn't ready for an afternoon nap.

Never heard of 2,3,4 routine. I've always been pretty laid back with it and a routine has always developed in it's own really through out daily life. Interesting though

looki We struggle with play groups. Up until around 7/8 months DS would only nap on me. I finally got him sleeping in his cot and he's become this really routiney baby! If a club is on at 10, I take him but he does get quite grumpy by the end and usually sleeps on the way home.

At 11 months DD has 40 mins in the morning and an hour in the afternoon. Still has the same at 14 months although is getting ready to drop a nap I think.

Wow. Don't really follow anything - my almost 11mo DS naps when he naps but has got pretty regular in the last couple of months. 20min in the morning about 2hrs after getting up and 30-40mins in the arvo around 3. If we're out in the car (which we were a lot over xmas. He'll sleep for as long as the journey - up to 2hrs once!!!)

Sooo jealous of these 1hr+ naps!! You must get so much done!!

On the morning we go to playgroup he tends to nap late and drop off at the end of the session during the singing!

We struggle with morning playgroups, I'll be glad when DD drops her morning nap completely so we can get out more and have a bit more freedom. She won't nap in her pram as the world is too interesting so we're confined to the house at nap times!

I used to just let my son nap through groups. .. I figured they were more for me than him. He always seems to sleep better out of the house than in it!

Tangoandcreditcards DS having two naps a day has completely changed my life!!!! I don't always get loads done though, unless you count having a cup of tea and mn ing "loads"! On the other hand when your baby is in a routine you're in it too. Staring to feel like a bit of a hermit and I'm looking forward to him dropping his morning nap-we're confined to the house a bit too, the peace is addictive. Poor little thing, I spend ages getting him to nap twice a day in his cot and now I want him to change again!

My nearly 11 month old has recently started having 1 nap rather than 2 most days but the nap is longer so for instance today she had 2 hour nap from 12 until 2 but some days she still has 2 shorter naps. She doesn't get up until about 9 am though so a morning nap wouldn't really work.

We are flexible with it though and if we're out she just naps in the car on the way back (she'd never fall asleep at a group or anywhere really! ). Last week we had a busy day and she didn't have any naps at all Shock she still settled fine at night but she does still wake up once or twice a night for feeds. She goes to bed between 7 and 7.30

I don't do any groups as I feel her naps are more important at this stage. We do meet up with friends (and she has an older brother) so she gets plenty of socialisation and play but all the groups are on during nap times so we don't bother.

Bambini, nice to know I'm not the only one awake in the night Wink

11 months , has 2.5 hours to the minute about 3 hours after waking up (about 9am) then an hour at 2ish before school run. I try and run errands /shopping during the time he is awake midday, and don't do any clubs yet dont seem to find the time after school runs, working and housework/laundryConfused . Then he's ready for bed at 6 and sleeps through until 6ish. Wakes at around 3am for 6oz of milk but over the last few weeks hes slept through about 1/3 of the time so fingers crossed this improves!

His usual the past two months is waking 2 hourly at night. He sometimes does a 7-11 stretch, then every two hours. But more often it's just every two hours.

Breastfed eats well.. But not sure of it's enough? Or enough solids. Or if it is just teething (cutting four top teeth)

Only 10m here but we dropped to two naps at the start of the year. DD gets up at 7:30, goes down about 9:45 for an hour or so, and then again at 2:45 until 3:30ish. Bed at 7:30. She used to be a chronic catnapper, it drove me crazy. She's pretty good now.

We've been confined to the house for naps since about 6m, but it doesn't bother me that much. I'd rather she had a sleep and was cheerful rather than missing it and being a nightmare! If she naps well in the day she sleeps better at night, and I'm slightly obsessed with her night sleep, for my own sanity more than anything!
