just now in the lift DD pipes up with 'mummy it's a black man'...... Blush

and it's not the first time, it has happened about 3 times now, each in close confines where the person has heard. I don't know what is the best way to react. Today I said, 'yes, he is a black man, but you don't need to tell us. why don't you say hello to him instead!'

We have never talked about 'black' people as such at home and she has plenty of exposure to people of many different races in nursery and playgroups etc, so i don't know where it has come from. I'm hoping it is just the developmental stage of stating the obvious, and just 'saying it how it is'. I'm just waiting for the 'it's fat man' or 'is it a man or a lady' comments.... BlushBlushBlush

Tips on what to say/how to deal with it greatly appreciated!

My daughter also went through this phase, mostly when we were out shopping, because she was so young it was just noticing the difference in colour of skin so we found that speaking about differences between people helped eg " you have brown eyes, some people have green eyes". I think its important that you discuss and acknowledge differences in people and we found books helped a lot we bought a book called "all kinds of people" which helped us start a little conversation to help her understand more.
