i haven't found a high chair yet my son can't escape from, he loathes being constrained in any way. of course he doesn't sit still of his own accord either. the only ways i can get him to eat are by chasing him with a laden spoon until he can be persuaded to stop momentarily and open up, infront of cbeebies held on my lap while i shovel it in to his distracted face or at nursery where apparently he's a good eater!
without tv he eats about 3 spoonfuls a meal.
i don't want him to become a tv reliant eater.
his diet is varied, he doesn't seem too fussy when he does eat
so how do i get him to learn to accept meal times?
(i try to sit at table to eat with him but end up eating alone/not at all)
tia

No advice sorry but my 13 MO is starting to try and get out of the high chair now so watching with interest - I had only just bloody figured out how to make him happy in there too!!!

I have one that could escape from the high chair and hardly ate too. Most meals she ended up just sitting on my knee.

We are quite tough in that you can't leave the table until everyone has finished eating.

I would definitely stop chasing him too. From his point of view that must be much more exciting than sitting in his highchair.

My 14mo has been on his stoke tripp trapp with no baby set since he was 11mo as he was climbing out he now climbs up and down safely into the chair.

He eats well but I eat at the same time as him, so he sees how to eat, I did do baby lead weaning so he eats/plays with his food until I am finished mine and then I help encourage him. If he want down I let him down he often potters off for a few minutes and then cones back for more.

I have an older child too who is a poor eater, I have tried really hard not to stress with ds2 and it has paid off. Often if he doesn't eat well at one meal he eats the next really well. So I don't worry if he doesn't fancy something.

Good luck it's so hard to know what to do.
