Daughter fighting sleep....I think

Surely a 7 month old NEEDS more than 1 hours sleep from between 6am and now (4:30pm)???

I know its hot but I have been making sure she has plenty of water, her nappy is dry, she's not hungry and her bedroom is always nice and cool (as that side of the house doesn't get the sun).

But every nap today she has fought! And after trying I make her sleep (ie going back in to give her her dummy, letting her cry for a short while), I eventually give up.

This in itself frustrates the hell outta me as I have by then wasted 30/40 minutes trying to get her to sleep to then eventually give in, for her to then be really ratty after!

Oh and btw prior to putting her down 4 her nap she was showing all the usual signs.

My boy went through a few weeks of 0 naps. Thry were hard weeks!! I just gave up trying until one day he was so exhausted he had a long nap.

Sorry, that's not good news is it Blush

My DD is also 7 months and is exactly the same. Sometimes she will only manage 2 x 20 minute naps between 6.30am and 7pm! She doesn't sleep at night either. I have to take her out and about in the pram or car to get her to have anything like a decent nap. So no advice, but I sympathise. It's exhausting, and I'm also worried about her development, although she's generally a happy, confident little thing.

My DD cut out one of her naps around this age and started taking one about 2-3 sometimes 3.30.

How many naps does your DC have? Could be that only one is needed.

Jessiemummy - sounds like you are having it pretty tough too! Why are you worried about her development??

Meeeep - she usually has 3 naps a day - morning around 8/8:30 for between 30 mins-1 hour, lunchtime around 11:30 ish for between 1-2 hours and afternoon nap from about 3:30/4 ish for anything between 30 mins to 2 hours.

How will I know to cut out a nap???

That's a lot of daytime naps. By this age DS was having a 30 min nap in the morning and a lunch time nap of 2 hours and gave up the morning nap not long after.

My dd always seemed to need fewer naps than most. At nursery, they dropped her to one nap much sooner than the other children, and it improved her general mood, plus her sleep at nights. I know lots of the research says that yes, all babies need X amount of sleep, whatever the parents think, but my anecdotal experience was that my dd functioned well on less than the average. (She is two now, doesn't nap at all, but almost always does her twelve hours solid at nights, and is otherwise even-tempered in the day, which is all good).

I never battled for the daytime sleep. I would put her down and if still awake after about 15 minutes would lift her and try again with the next nap/bedtime. I was quite rigid for the first year with the bedtime routine and it was a 7pm bedtime every night.

I found that she cut her naps herself it wasn't something I ever consciously made a decision about.
