DS doesn't like playing on his own - normal for a 3 year old?

My 3 year DS can't entertain himself. He loves playing as long as he has someone to play with. Left to his own devices he struggles, tantrums and demands someone play with him. The only thing he'll do is watch TV on his own

Is this age appropriate behaviour? It worries me that he can't handle time on his own. We do set him up with stuff, or use a timer to say ' I will play with you after xx minutes' and we just walk away and leave him to get bored.

But it niggles me. I do get anxious that he should be more able to amuse himself for a bit.

I think it's normal. Everyone has their own personality, some like company and some don't.

Sounds normal to me too. See if it changes over the next 12 months or so.

Have you tried using the timer the other way around? For example, 'I will play with you for 10 minutes and then I need to do x'? Sometimes works for us.
