Hi, I have a 10 month old. He has been walking since 9 months and is very steady on his feet. I have child proofed the house in every way I can, lots of foam covered stuff in my house :) got rid of coffee table. Blocked off access to TV unit. But for the life of me I can't stop him banging his head. He gets over excited by everything example the theme tune for goddamn peppy pig he runs in a circle and falls and hits the sofa( which for the most part is soft I didn't even know it had hard parts until his head found them, and just to point out the thinks that excite him change from day to day norther day it could be the phone ringing or the kettle boiling). This morning he was playing right beside me he bent to pick up his teddy and lost balance and hit his head off his play pen. Huge bump sprang right up. When he is going to bed he stands up in his cot sometimes falls over hits head off the side.mim at my wit send I don't want to hover all the time and he actually gets very frustrated with me hovering .
I bought him a helmet which I can get him to wear every other day but it makes his head all sweaty and him cranky.
Is it normal for him to be hitting his head so much , should I be concerned? I brought him to the doctors twice with bumps and not sure if they think I'm crazy over protective mother. Today I was close to bringing him again but told myself to calm put ice on it and he is absolutely fine just with a bump and bruise. I just don't know what else I can do to stop him hurting himself ? Any advice?

You can't stop a toddler hurting themselves

It's part of the learning process and while certain things are sensible like stair gates, helmets are ott and your dc won't learn important lessons like if he runs full pelt at the door and headbutts it, it will hurt!

I just feel like such a terrible mother he has a bruise on either side of his forehead right now. Oh dear god if he runs full pelt into a door I'll probably pass out myself!!!

All kids get bumps and bruises, it does not make you a bad mother Smile

Their head is still overly heavy in proportion to their body, an he's still learning the art of balance. And that takes a wee while believe me. Dd2 walked at 1 year, she's now 2onths and sometimes just falls because she's distracted or not 100% concentrating! It's all part of the learning process, so keep an eye out but don't wrap him In cotton wool or else he'll never learn!

Thanks ladies. I feel a little better . He is just so small , seeing him walking is just odd but he does it so well most if the time, seeing bumps and bruises just breaks my heart. I guess I better toughen up a bit or I'll be a nervous wreck.
I am moving to a new house next month where the kitchen floor has tiles! This is going to be tricky

This is a joke post, surely - nobody gets rid of the coffee table, puts foam on everything and makes their toddler wear a helmet.

I wish it was a joke. I challenge you to spend 1 hour with my son and not want to wrap him in bubble wrap. The last hv I visited said I'd end up with a lot of trips to A&E and in her notes wrote "extremely active", for me that was an understatement.

And it not foam exactly it like strips of foam that goes around edges of things. I just used quite a bit of it.
