5 Year old heariong voices??

Basically for some months now my 5yo DD1 has been complaining of hearing coices, it seems to be more like an echo, so if I ask her something she'll hear it a few times.

I had put this down to tiredness but she seems to be getting annoyed by it now. On the walk to school this week she said "sometimes I wish it was just silent".

Any thoughts??

We also took her to get eyes tested as she was seeing coloured spots/shapes. The optician said there was a slight prescription but as she was seeing these spots they would give her glasses for 3 months and reassess her.

Yesterday she said she spoke to the teacher about the voices but "the teacher was really rude and just ignored me, didn't even look at me". I don't think she did ask the teacher but she is adamant she did say it out loud.

Not really sure what to do with it all to be honest?

Possibly a stupid question, but have you seen your GP for a referral to have her hearing tested?

I would take her to the GP. Could be something or nothing but a good idea to get her checked out I think.

I thought about getting her hearing tested but DH is a mental Health nurse and is a bit adament that she is not being "labelled".

It started then stopped so I thought that was it but turns out it hadn't stopped and it's just that she didn't mention it.

She said it will sometimes tell her to do things like run, skip etc but sometimes tells her to do bad things like "don't listen to your mum" but mostly it's an echo but in a man's voice.

wasnt there a thread recently where the child turned out to have a severe kidney infection and was hearing things? or am i mistaken?

Honestly, it's probably a combination of an overactive imagination, and ear wax or something.

I seriously doubt that a GP do anything other than refer you to the paediatric ENT or department of your local hospital.

Do you think your DH might be letting his work run away with him? I don't think there are many (if any) infants being diagnosed with the sort of MH problems that involve hearing voices.

As soon as I read the thread title, I thought kidney infection. I would take her to the GP asap.

Yes I definitely think DH will be letting his job affect his judgement here.

I will call and get a GP appointment.

Really? Kidney infection? Will definitely get it checked out.

My grandmother used to hear things when she had urine/kidney infections (not sure of the science behind it but it's very common apparently)
I have mild hearing problems and often hear echo or a whooshing type noise in my ears.
Definitely worth taking her to GP for a basic all over check up and urine dip test. Good luck

OP does your dd say what kind of voices / noises she's hearing? Are they words / people speaking or just sounds? Personally, I would take her to the GP and explain what's been happening. Whether it's a kidney issue or potentially MH I would take my dd just to get checked out. Good luck.
