Bad title for this thread, as it's not really aggression, as he is really young, but I wasn't really sure how to word it in the title!
My 13 month old DS keeps hurting people, for example, he smacked me in the face earlier, and he grabbed my cheek and scratched me, and then this evening he got a book out and took it to my mum and whacked her on the head with it. Obviously he is only just 1, and I know that he has no concept that he is inflicting pain, but it seems to be his favourite thing to do at the moment, and I'm not really sure what to do about it, or even if I should seeing as he is only very young?
I have tried repeatedly telling him no quite sternly, but I'm not really sure if children that young understand the meaning of no? It certainly makes no difference to him whatsoever, in fact if anything it seems to encourage him even more!
Is this just a phase? I mean I'm not really worried that it is any indication that he's going to grow up being violent or anything, but just wondered if anyone has experienced this and whether they just grow out of it, or whether I need to do something about it, and if so, then what should I do?
Sorry, I've probably explained this really badly, I know it's not aggression, he's only a baby, and he's not intentionally hurting people, but I'm just a bit anxious to take him places at the moment for fear of him hurting someone! Last week I took him to a Birthday party and another 1 year old stood in front of him and from a sitting position on the floor, my DS just pushed the other child really hard. Luckily the other mum was lovely about it, and I obviously told my DS no, but I'm not really sure I'm getting anywhere?
Has anyone got any experience of this?
